Headteacher: Mrs. C Baillie

The School was inspected by OFSTED on 19th and 20th May 2015 and was judged as OUTSTANDING.

OFSTED judges a school in five areas:

  • Leadership and management
  • Behaviour and safety of pupils
  • Quality of teaching
  • Achievement of pupils
  • Early years provision

The school was found to be OUTSTANDING in all five areas.  We are very proud of this result, which can only be achieved by hard work from everyone involved with the school, and are glad that we have so much to offer to the children of Bradninch.

The Duchy School, became an academy in September 2013, and is a member of the Primary Academies Trust. The Trust compromises eight primary schools sited across Devon, whose aim is to deliver excellence in education through collaborative working and through the delivery of high-quality education for all its pupils.

The School is a spacious and welcoming Primary School, which has around 170 pupils aged from 4 to 11.

There are currently six classes spread across seven bright and well-equipped classrooms with two additional computer suites. There is a large school hall for assemblies, sport and school performances. It is here that the children are also able to enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch.

The school is particularly lucky to be able to benefit from the use of a large school field, multi-use games area and spacious playground. In addition the children can spend time observing the creatures living in the beautiful school pond area or tending the vegetables in the raised beds.

There is a wide-ranging curriculum with many exciting extra-curricular activities. Whether their interests lie in singing or chess, sport or the creative arts, all pupils will find an activity which suits them.

There is an excellent team of teachers and learning support assistants who work very hard to create an atmosphere of purposeful endeavour in a caring environment, so the children receive a wide range of experiences enabling them to become self-motivated and self-disciplined lifelong learners.

The school encourages and welcomes support from parents and helpers and it is this partnership which helps to create a successful and thriving community.
