Bradninch Town Council consists of 12 Elected Councillors and The Town Clerk. The Council is responsible for managing a variety of facilities in Bradninch and is consulted by Mid Devon District Council on planning issues in and around the Town. It is also consulted by many statutory bodies on a wide range of issues.
The Town Council is also the sole Trustee of the Bradninch Youth Centre Trust (BYCT). This trust owns West End Hall (formerly The Old Girls’ School) on West End Road. The hall is currently leased to Bradninch Youth Club, which has its own management committee.
To manage the workload the Council has the following committees, which meet as and when their business requires it:
- Planning
- Recreation & Amenities
- Finance & Emergencies
It also has two main working groups covering Burial and Allotment matters.
Members of the Council’s Committees and main Working Groups can be found on the ‘Home’ page.
The full Council usually meets on the second Monday of every month, excluding August, and meetings are open to the public. Members of the public are not permitted to speak during meetings, except for a 15 minute period at the start of each full Council meeting when they may raise issues and ask questions. It also meets as required to discuss BYCT business and as needed for urgent business. Meetings are held in the Council Chamber in the Guildhall. Though they meet there, the Council does not own or manage the Guildhall – it is owned by the Bradninch Town Trust, which is quite separate from the Council. The latest agendas and the minutes of meetings for the last 12 months can be found by following the relevant link below.
The Town Council allocates in its budget each year a sum of money which can be distributed to local groups. Applications for grants from this fund need to be made to the Town Clerk no later than 31st January and successful applicants will receive the awards the following May. Follow the link below to the Town Council Grants for details of how to apply.
